Anyone can benefit from Osteopathy - from babies through to the elderly

Who Can Benefit?

Quite simply from babies through to the elderly.

There are conditions that can effect just about anybody, but each age group will also tend to have their own specific problems.

Babies: Sometimes problems with sleeping, feeding, colic etc, are due to stresses and strains imposed on the infant skull during the birth process. Cranial Osteopathy can be particularly useful in helping to resolve these issues.

Youngsters/Teenagers: Various developmental problems can arise, sometimes for no obvious reason. Quite often things go wrong as a result of poor posture, too little exercise, even too much exercise, especially if it is not suited to the individual, or if their bodies are struggling to cope with a 'growth spurt'.

During Pregnancy: The stresses and strains imposed on the musculo-skeletal system during pregnancy are considerable. They vary according to the frame and make-up of the mother, the size of the baby, how the mother "carries" the baby etc. Problems become worse in the latter stages as the ligaments relax in preparation for the birth process. Often much relief can be given by appropriate osteopathic treatment and advice.

Middle Years: All sorts of life's stresses, both emotional and physical, can take their toll on the body's musculo-skeletal system.

Elderly: No matter how well we try to look after ourselves, our bodies eventually lose their strength and flexibility and suffer the effects of 'wear and tear'. This may affect people at different stages in their lives and at different rates. However, many symptoms can be helped by easing tight, painful muscles and encouraging more movement in stiff joints.

Sports People: Apart from obvious injuries, often sports people feel that their performance is not up to scratch, or they don't feel "right". Osteopaths can assess their body mechanics and correct areas of restrictions which may have been impeding their techniques. Also, advice on training and especially stretching exercises can make a vital impact on performance and reduce the risk of injury. Sport should be an enjoyable and rewarding activity.

'MOTs': Some people also find it beneficial to have 'MOTs'. By helping to ensure optimum mechanical functioning of the body, these can reduce the chances of problems arising and they can also help to manage chronic conditions in order to minimise discomfort.
